Activo Trader Platform

Client: ActivoBank
Role: Lead UI/UX Designer
Category: TradFi / Retail Trading
Focus: Data Visualization, Streaming Architecture
Timeline: 2011-2013

The Challenge

Active traders require zero-latency information to make high-stakes decisions. The objective was to architect a professional trading terminal that unified live market streaming, complex order books, and fundamental analysis—without overwhelming the retail user with cognitive overload.

The Architecture

I designed a modular, high-density interface built for real-time orchestration. By prioritizing visual hierarchy and state changes, I ensured that critical market movements and execution workflows remained instantly accessible amid heavy data streams.

Core Deliverables

  • Real-time Securities & Order Book Visualization

  • Frictionless Direct-Market Execution Flows

  • Integrated Market Intelligence (RSS feed)

  • Dynamic Technical Assessment Indicators

Architecting for Data Density

Designing for high-frequency trading means battling cognitive fatigue. I utilized a strict grid system and highly controlled color typography (Red/Green state indicators) to allow traders to scan massive amounts of streaming securities and portfolio data in milliseconds.

The Order Book & Execution Flow

The core of the platform is the live Order Book and execution module. I separated the analytical views (technical indicators, charts) from the execution layer, ensuring that when a user is ready to place a market or limit order, the interaction is isolated, frictionless, and visually distinct to prevent critical errors.

Contextual Market Intelligence

Trading doesn’t happen in a vacuum. I integrated complex third-party data feeds—including live Dow Jones Newswire video streams, ActivoResearch, and Market Consensus—directly into the trader’s peripheral workflow. This allows users to validate their technical analysis with fundamental data without ever leaving the terminal environment.
